June 2004 - Local Company Goes National

Award wining house builder grows brand awareness outside Yorkshire

Consort Homes (Northern) Ltd - an award winning house builder based in Leeds - is taking its successful brand outside Yorkshire to the west coast of Scotland with the acquisition of Helmsdale Homes. This expansion takes the company one step nearer to its goal of becoming a truly national builder of luxury homes for couples and families.

This summer, subsidiary Consort Homes (Scotland) Ltd, will launch its new development of quality houses in West Kilbride, near Glasgow. Twenty-six detached houses starting from around £145,000 will offer luxury Scottish living in keeping with the rural and much sought after area.

The drive behind this new growth is two-fold. Firstly, Consort is harnessing the momentum in the marketplace for quality, well built homes which provide real attention to detail and always have the buyer in mind. An example of this can be seen at Consort’s recent development in Barwick-in-Elmet, Leeds, where the company supplied secure outside plugs to allow buyers to carry on the tradition of placing Christmas trees, covered in twinkling fairy lights, on porches and patios. Secondly, the company is capitalising on the robust price rises which have been reported in all of the northern English regions; surveyors expect northern regions to show the best price gains over the next few months, according to RICS.

In order to supply a launch pad for its venue into Scotland Consort acquired existing business Helmsdale Homes, along with its two directors, who bring their extensive 40 years’ experience of the Scottish housing market.

Helmsdale had already acquired the plot of land in West Kilbride, which has beautiful views over the undulating countryside, and runs along the side of Kilbride Burn, which makes it ideal for a development of this kind, focusing on attention to detail. West Kilbride is a costal town located on the Firth of Clyde, an hour’s drive from Glasgow, popular with commuters wanting countryside living and better value for money than provided by city living.

"All the elements are in place for Consort to increase its national presence as Yorkshire’s, and we hope Scotland’s, leading housebuilder," declared Stubbs. "Our newly modified business model and our long-term strategy are positioning Consort for aggressive growth in the near future."
