October 2004 - Consort Homes Help Build The Future Of The Construction Industry
National Construction Week 2004 sees the launch of Consort Homes (Northern)
Ltd construction Student/s of the Year Award.
Consort Homes is looking for talented students
from Leeds College of Building who demonstrate
real ability in the traditional and much needed
art of house building and its management. For
the winners Consort Homes is offering a cash
reward, a bespoke tool kit worth £200 and
a full-time job on completion of the student’s
course, subject to terms and conditions.
This is the first year Consort has launched this
award at Leeds College of Building for student/s
to receive the Consort Homes Student/s of the Year
Award. The award will recognise a wide variety
of achievements – on the job performance;
academic performance and responsibility; and particular
contributions during student’s work placements
at Consort Homes, and to Leeds College of Building.
The award aims to improve the level of connectivity
between construction industry employers and education
providers. It is hoped that Consort’s award
will facilitate greater collaboration between all
stakeholders in order that construction education
can develop and grow to more comprehensively fulfil
the needs of students and industry employers in
the future.
Commenting on the launch of the award Liz Tasker, Marketing Manager at Leeds College of Building said: “ The CITB projection of annual net requirements for new entrants in the construction and specialist contracting sectors between 2000 and 2004 is 74,800 across the UK. One of the ways of meeting this demand is by identifying and encouraging suitable students through colleges like Leeds College of Building. Partnerships such as the Consort’s Student/s of the Year programme are an excellent way to assist full time students into employment and ensure training and development of our future house builders.”
Consort Homes’ Chairman, Darren Stubbs, commented: “Consort Homes aims to provide students with skills and knowledge that they may not have obtained in the mainstream program. Placements will allow students to improve on many skills important to career development such as communication, teamwork, and professionalism.”
Consort Homes has developments throughout Yorkshire and will be launching new developments in the North of England shortly.Daniel Saxton, Quantity Surveyor at Consort Homes and previous winner of Student of the Year.
