November 2005 - Safety First For Kids
Sales Advisor, Sharon Knowles (Center) with Zoe Simmonds (10), Ryan Wilby (10), Samuel Duggan (11) and Shauna Bull (10).
SAFETY is the subject of the day for kids at Carlinghow Princess Royal School thanks to a donation of resources by Consort Homes. Key Stage 2 children at the school have been learning how to stay safe in a variety of situations both inside and outside School with new safety books.
Yorkshire house builders Consort Homes, who are developing new homes on Ings Road near the school, provided a whole class with the books, which are distributed in an initiative run by The Children’s Safety Education Foundation in association with health and emergency services.
The literature gives key facts in a user-friendly fashion by inviting readers to learn about Health and Safety issues through a fun-filled range of exercises and activities. By using everything from specially commissioned crosswords and word-searches to fascinating classroom discussion topics, the publication offers something for everyone.
The packs cover topics from bullying, safety in the playground, the home and on building sites to drug issues and abuse. They provide action plans to allow the children deal with each of these areas. Also included are games to teach children fire safety and what to do in the event of a fire or emergency at school or home. The helpful pack includes working booklets for the children and posters for the classrooms.
Sharon Knowles, Consort’s Sales Advisor handed over the books to the children, “ Our new homes on Ings Road are literally just down the road from the school and it is likely that children from the school will be living there. We realize the importance of educating children at a young age to make them more aware of the dangers that sadly they may face. We feel that the material from the Children’s Safety Foundation is a fantastic learning tool and whenever we move into a new area, we like to try to sponsor books for at least one class of local school children.”
