April 2007 - School Pupil Names New Development
Seven-year-old Sana Nadeem has won a competition, run by Consort Homes for Mount Pellon Junior School, to name the newly-launched residential development to be built in Halifax.
The winning name submitted by Sana was ‘School Lea’. Chosen by Consort, the given name is now approved and will be used as the official title. Sana was presented with her very own sign, as well as £50 of book tokens.
The runners up were Rhubarb Street, by Sofia Mahmood and Twinkle Twinkle Street, put forward by four-year-old Sepehr Yousefali.
Mary Hall, Headteacher at Mount Pellon Junior School, said: “It is always exciting to forge links with local businesses and get the children involved in the wider community.
“The whole school got involved in the project and there were some wild and wonderful names relating to favourite chocolate bars, nursery rhymes and popular culture, as well as those referring to local history and the location of the development, which will be just by our school.”
Darren Stubbs, Chairman of Consort Homes, said: “We want to build more than just houses; we want our developments to be part of the local community too, and what better way to do this than ask local children to decide the sales name for one of our sites.
“The school is just around the corner from this new development and we are keen to build a strong and lasting relationship with staff and pupils. As the building work progresses, we will be inviting the school back and hopefully we can help the children gain a better understanding of the benefit of strong local communities.”
The site name ‘School Lea’ will be used in all advertising, brochures and publicity for the development, which is situated adjacent to Mount Pellon Junior School in Pellon, Halifax.
